School Supply - Uniform Drive

LINC Houston is raising funds to help families provide uniforms and supplies for their children.

Back to school means it's time to buy school supplies and uniforms. It broke our hearts last year when several mothers came to our offices a week into the school year to ask for assistance. Their children didn't yet have school uniforms and weren't allowed to attend school. We quickly did something about it and were able to help several families purchase uniforms and supplies.

This year, we have observed an increased need among the families we serve. Many don't have the money to pay for food and bills, let alone school uniforms. We have identified the families who are most in need and are attempting to help them with this issue. Our minimum goal is to help 200 children and can easily distribute more that that to impoverished families.

Sydney Gets a Lift

Sydney is one of our beloved clients who survived Hurricane Ike even after a tree fell onto the middle of his roof and destroyed much of his living space.  LINC Houston through the work of many volunteers was able to repair his home, but the ministry continues.

Sydney lives alone and suffers from a painful type of bone cancer.  Every time he raises himself up slowly from his recliner, he groans.  We have actually seen him cry a couple of times from the intense pain.  Through a mini-grant for unmet needs through NCI, his case manager Michelle was able to purchase a gently used recliner that lifts up with an electric motor.  The chair was delivered and Sydney was overjoyed.

Sydney is a survivor in so many ways.  We are blessed to have the privilege of serving him with Jesus' love.

On April 26, 2010, four pastors received divine calls to serve as Missionary-At-Large in Houston, TX through LINC.  They have been studying through the Center for Hispanic Studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.  The four pastors are Mario Casillas, Pedro Jofre, Rodrigo Fernandez and Lincon Guerra.

After five years of working through the US immigration system as a Religious Worker sponsored by LINC Houston, Rev. Dr. Emeka Agwu was able to bring his family to live with him in Houston.  This has been a major prayer petition of many people, including the members of LINC Board of Directors, the Ministry Staff, the member of Voice of Evangelism and all those who know of Pastor Emeka's ministry.  Through many setbacks and delays, God remained faithful to His children and has united this family here in Houston, TX.

2010 Census - Be Counted

LINC Houston is partnering with the US Census Bureau to help our neighbors be counted.  The statistics generated by the census provide critical data to those allocating funds.  For Harris County, census data helps determine our funding allocations for education, transportation, vital social services, healthcare, job training and more. This data also determines who will represent Harris County in Congress and the State Legislature.  Thanks to a grant to United Way, LINC is able to hold training with our ministry leaders, along with town hall meetings in various communities.

For more information about what is happening throughout Harris County, visit their website.
